Don’t We All Have a Battle to Fight, Odds to Beat? Don’t We All Go Through Trials and Tribulations of Life in Order to Win Our Lives?
Some of us have success stories to tell and others a story of battles, adversities, challenges, obstacles, and circumstances that we fought most of our lives and some of us are probably fighting a battles to overcome as we speak.
As human family, we all share common misfortunes, similar ups and downs, some of our struggles look alike. Our battles can be economical, relationship building challenges, health related issues or loss of loved once, in life we are bound to receive blessings and misfortunes no matter who we are or no matter where we live.
It is fair to say nobody is immune from taking slaps on their faces from life not only once, it happens from time to time. In that way, we all are in the same boat.
If we all are bound to face adversities, life’s challenges, if we all face circumstances, if we all face trials and tribulations, what is it that separates those who face challenges and overcome, those who beat odds and achieve success, those who transform from trial to and tribulations to triumphs from those who totally breakdown by the adversities they face?
It is not the adversities themselves that breaks us down most of the time, it is how we deal with what we are dealt with. To be honest, even a good thing can be an adversity if we don’t know how to handle it well. A good example of that would be…people who win big lottery money and end up broke in a few years; because they weren’t prepared to handle the sudden riches that hit them unexpectedly.
I have a few insights or tips that worked for me in time of facing adversities. Give it a shot and see if it would work for you. Here it is…
1. Stay calm, even if it feels like your boat is shaking from strong storm. Stay calm and soon you will know that the storm may not be as bad as you think. Everything in life is up to interpretation. If you exaggerate it, it may look worse than it really is. As they say, (Fear) is Falls Evidence Appearing Real. Don’t let your fear takeover! Take your time and think it through.
2. Think it through, look at your challenges, adversities, and circumstances and prioritize them according to their importance and time sensitivity; instead of mashing all problems together and losing control of all of them. Try to stay calm, calmness seem to scare away fear. Remember, it has been said, a person asked how to eat an Elephant? The answer to this question goes like this…”one bite a time”. Prioritize and solve one problem at a time. Take control of the situations instead of being controlled by the adversities you face. In life you are the captain of your boat, keep guiding the boat to the right direction and in time you would beat the odds, you will pass the waves, you will win over the trials and the tribulations and make it to your intended destinations…
3. When the going gets very tough and it feels as if it is time to seek help, don’t be shy to seek help. There is a limit to how much and for how long each of us can handle our challenges all by ourselves. It is best to know when to seek help. The help can be sought from family members, close friends or professionals who are an expert at solving certain problems we struggle with. The main thing is, not to fight it alone more than necessary; as that can only lead to deeper and deeper crisis.
4. Time Heals, there are lots of adversities or challenges that cannot be resolved immediately, may not be totally resolved in years… For example, losing loved once takes time to deal with, going through divorce can be soul draining, being in bankruptcy at a business that took lifetime to build would hurt a lot or living with terminal illness or seeing our loved once suffer from terminal disease, all could cause pain and huge stress. But, if we give ourselves sometime and try to stay calm through the storm, intime we will overcome. Calmness is the key!
5. Nobody is superman/superwomen. For the most part, we are under control of nature, government, different entities that do carry…our fate. All we can do is do our best as much as we can… and know when to let go. We can be heroes, not because we always win but we know when to let go. The level of attachments we have to things could break us more than it needs to be. Letting go is part of a solution. “If it doesn’t fit, we must quit”. We shouldn’t lose our minds and drain our souls on somethings that are not fixable.
